We are pleased to invite you to the VIP opening of Where Thought Stops, a joint exhibition by Anna Brandt and Alexander Ericsson.
For both artists, painting begins where ordinary consciousness loosens its grip. Their works do not emerge from fixed ideas or predetermined narratives, but from states of suspension, moments when thought recedes, time shifts, and the need to explain falls away.
Brandt approaches painting through another kind of disappearance. Her work begins in the moment when thought stops and control gives way to instinct. Painting becomes a place of release: not emptiness, but a charged state of openness.
Ericsson’s figures are present yet withheld: faces simplified, eyes obscured, identities held just beyond reach. They occupy the image like figures at the edge of a room, visible, observant, but never fully available.
Together, Where Thought Stops brings two practices into dialogue around concealment, instinct, and partial presence. The exhibition asks what painting can hold when it is not required to speak at once, when the image remains suspended, withheld, and quietly alive.
