Self-portrait of the artist herself, with the addition of dahlia photographs transformed into helmets, outfits, and various versions of body covering decor – the Play Hard Collection. Through an attentive process of modifying each dahlia flower, and with careful attention to detail, new creations are patiently formed, piece by piece. Embedded is the symbolic meaning of the dahlia, as it carries the notion of inner strength, change, and commitment. The formation of helmets serves as a reference to the irony of mindfully trying to ensure your safety while voluntarily throwing yourself into risk-taking, danger, and the unknown. Also, the act of putting on a helmet translates into consciously making use of experiences gained, turning them into useful means of protection as you move forward, playing hard.
